Rep. Olthoff congratulates high-performing schools, teachers
STATEHOUSE – State Representative Julie Olthoff (R-Crown Point) congratulates several local schools that were awarded teacher performance grants by the state. For the first time in Indiana history, grants will be presented to teachers rated either effective or highly effective as a bonus.
“It’s an honor to represent a community that has such hard-working teachers dedicated to educating our children,” said Rep. Olthoff. “These teachers have an important role in our students’ lives and deserve to be rewarded for their effort and success.”
The following list includes the school corporations that received teacher performance grants in House District 19:
Through House Enrolled Act 1001, which is the biennial budget that passed in 2013, a total of $30 million was allocated in teacher performance grants. The amounts awarded to qualifying schools were based on a combination of ISTEP+ and End-of-Course Assessment passing rates per pupil as well as graduation rates per pupil.
“Education is the key to preparing our children for their futures as community members, employees and innovators,” said Rep. Olthoff. “By focusing more dollars on the classroom and reviewing the funding formula this session, teachers will have easier access to the resources they need and students will have more opportunities for success.”
Rep. Olthoff represents a portion of Lake County, including Crown Point, Winfield and parts of Merrillville and Hobart.
