Rep. Wolkins Honors Families of Fallen Indiana Soldiers
(STATEHOUSE) March 24, 2009 - Rep. Dave Wolkins (R-Winona Lake) today joined the Indiana General Assembly in honoring the families of Indiana soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice defending their country, especially those fighting the war on terrorism.
In a resolution, the Indiana General Assembly offered gratitude and prayers to the families of the 152 fallen men and women from Indiana. As part of the ceremony, the families were invited into the House chamber for the reading of the resolution. Following this reading, the names of the soldiers were read and Adjutant General R. Martin Umbarger spoke before the assembly.
"It was great to be with the General Assembly today honoring Hoosiers who have sacrificed their lives to protect ours," said Rep. Wolkins. "I am truly grateful to be in the presence of these fallen Hoosiers' families."
Rep. Wolkins represents parts of Kosciusko, LaGrange and Elkhart counties. The names of soldiers from these Indiana counties were read to the House.
Army National Guard Sgt. 1st Class Craig Boling, age 38. Craig gave his life on July 8, 2003, in Kuwait.
Army Staff Sgt. Mark A. Lawton, age 41. Mark gave his life on Aug. 29, 2003, in Iraq.
Army Spc. Kyle G. Thomas, age 23. Kyle gave his life on Sept. 25, 2003, in Iraq.
Army Staff Sgt. Marvin L. Trost III, age 28. Marvin gave his life on Dec. 5, 2004, in Iraq.
Army Spc. Jeffery W. Corban, age 30. Jeffery gave his life on Oct. 15, 2005, in Iraq.
Marine Cpl. Aaron Seal, age 23. Aaron gave his life on Oct.1, 2006, in Iraq.
Army Staff Sgt. James P. Snyder, age 48. James gave his life on May 10, 2008, Stateside.
Army Spc. David Wilkey Jr., age 22. David gave his life on June 18, 2007, in Iraq.
Army Staff Sgt. Travis K. Hunsberger, age 24. Travis gave his life on June 27, 2008, in Afghanistan.
Marine Lance Cpl. David Fribley, age 26. David gave his life on March 23, 2003, in Iraq.
Army National Guard Sgt. Brock A. Beery, age 30. Brock gave his life on March 23, 2006, in Iraq.
Army Staff Sgt. Kristopher D. Rodgers, age 29. Kristopher gave his life on August 16, 2008, in Afghanistan.
The resolution concluded with the ceremonial playing of taps.
