Rep. Slager congratulates Lake Central High School on academic success
STATEHOUSE – State Representative Hal Slager (R-Schererville) is pleased to congratulate Lake Central High School for being in the top 30 of schools in Indiana to achieve the goal of having 25 percent or more of its students pass Advanced Placement (AP) courses. “I am proud to congratulate Lake Central High School for achieving this high academic feat. I know it took diligent work from the school’s students, teachers, faculty, administration and parents to reach this point. This is a success for our schools and our community, and everyone involved should be proud,” said Rep. Slager. Representatives of Lake Central High School were honored during the 5th annual Indiana Advanced Placement Access and Success Recognition Reception on Friday, June 21 at the Indiana Statehouse. The event was sponsored by the College Board and recognized Indiana schools that had at least 25 percent of their graduates pass at least one AP exam or were the highest one-year growth schools. Thirty-four schools across Indiana were awarded for achieving an AP course pass rate of 25 percent or more. Nine schools were recognized as “Highest Growth Schools”. AP is a research backed method to facilitate student participation and success through the delivery of college-level courses and corresponding exams in the high school setting to qualified high school students. In 2009, when this event began, 12 schools were recognized for reaching the 25 percent mark. “The AP exams are a great stepping stone for a student to begin his or her college career. Not only are these tests a great tool to prepare for college-level testing, but they also can reward the student with financial savings during college,” said Rep. Slager. “With persistent work, I have no doubt that Lake Central High School’s students will continue to attain academic success.” -30-
