STATEHOUSE (Aug. 20, 2021) – The Jeffries Farm in Putnam County recently received a Hoosier Homestead Centennial Award for being in operation since 1885, according to State Rep. Beau Baird (R-Greencastle) and State Sen. John Crane (R-Avon).
"Agriculture has always been one of Indiana's most critical industries," Baird said. "These farms continue a tradition that makes our state one of the largest ag producers in the country."
Crane said the Jeffries Farm was among 73 recognized at the Indiana State Fair for their commitment to Indiana agriculture.
"It is no small feat to stay in operation for well over 100 years," Crane said. "This is a testament to the perseverance and hard work of those at the Jeffries Farm, and I am happy to see them receive this recognition."
The Hoosier Homestead Award Program recognizes farms owned and maintained by the same family for 100 years or more. Families can qualify for centennial, sesquicentennial or bicentennial awards.
