STATEHOUSE (Oct. 6, 2022) – State Rep. Jim Pressel (R-Rolling Prairie) said several schools in LaPorte County recently received over $435,000 through the state's Secured Schools Safety Grant Program.

Pressel said the local funding is part of this year's record-breaking school safety investments totaling more than $22.9 million in matching state grants headed to 425 schools across Indiana.

"Protecting our students is a top priority," Pressel said. "These grants will allow local schools to make the necessary investments and changes to ensure every young Hoosier has a safer learning environment."

Schools receiving grant funds in LaPorte County include:

  • La Lumiere School, $34,999;
  • LaPorte Community School Corp., $75,000;
  • MSD of New Durham Township, $47,722;
  • Marquette Catholic High School, $26,560;
  • New Prairie United School Corp., $38,400;
  • Notre Dame Catholic School, $46,462;
  • Queen of All Saints School, $11,578;
  • Renaissance Academy Charter School, $20,250;
  • Saint John Lutheran School, $50,000;
  • South Central Community School Corp., $50,000; and
  • Tri-Township Consolidated School Corp. $35,000.

Funds can be used for resource officers and law enforcement officers in schools, equipment and technology, active event warning systems, threat assessments, and to implement a student and parent support services program.

In total, the state invested about $133 million in matching grants through the Secured School Fund, established through a 2013 law House Republicans supported.
