STATEHOUSE (July 11, 2019) – State Rep. Jim Pressel (R-Rolling Prairie) recently presented the Circle of Corydon award to Julie West-Schroeder for her advocacy work with the Play for Jake Foundation.

The foundation is named after Schroeder’s son, Jake West, who died suddenly during football practice from an undetected heart condition in 2013. To help prevent other families from experiencing similar tragedies, Schroeder created the Play for Jake Foundation to raise awareness and provide screening and protection programs to area schools.

“Julie has worked tirelessly to raise awareness of this important issue across our state,” Pressel said. “I have no doubt she has saved and changed many lives since she first started the Play for Jake Foundation. We are so fortunate to have such a strong and dedicated leader in our community, and Julie is so deserving of this honor.”

According to Pressel, thousands of Northwest Indiana and Southwest Michigan school-age students have been screened and many undiagnosed heart conditions have been detected thanks to Schroeder’s advocacy and leadership.

The Circle of Corydon award was established by Gov. Eric Holcomb and is given to Hoosiers who contribute to the betterment of Indiana and its people.
