STATEHOUSE (Oct. 16, 2018) – Riley Elementary School and LaPorte High School recently received Gold Star recognition, according to State Rep. Jim Pressel (R-Rolling Prairie).
The Indiana Department of Education awards Gold Star designation to schools that have developed a comprehensive school counseling and guidance program, and are aligned with Indiana School Counselor standards, as well as more rigorous American School Counselor Association standards.
“Counselors play a vital role in helping students succeed inside and outside the classroom,” Pressel said. “With help from educators, students develop goals and plan their academic and career futures, taking the necessary steps toward life after high school. Congratulations to these educators on their hard work, and thank you for your continued efforts to help our students succeed.”
This year, Riley Elementary was awarded its first Gold Star recognition, while LaPorte High School renewed its Gold Star status. Pressel said LaPorte High School has also gone on to be recognized by the American School Counseling Association with its highest national award of Recognized ASCA Model Programs.
More than 300 Indiana schools received the Gold Star designation since it was established in 2004.
State Rep. Jim Pressel (R-Rolling Prairie) represents House District 20,
which includes portions of LaPorte and Starke counties.
