STATEHOUSE (Feb. 3, 2021) — Gov. Eric Holcomb this week appointed State Rep. Jim Pressel (R-Rolling Prairie) to the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission, where he will help address issues relating to transportation, the environment and economic development.

"Northwest Indiana is a hotbed of economic opportunity and growth, and I am eager to take on this new role and further help our communities thrive," Pressel said. "This group understands the importance of infrastructure and its role in the success and prosperity of our region. I am committed to developing solutions and providing a voice for LaPorte and Starke counties."

The Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission represents 41 cities and towns in Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties, and promotes innovative proposals that advance the region economically. They host a monthly public forum where the initiatives they are working on are discussed. The next meeting is scheduled for Feb. 9 and is open to the public.

The Indiana General Assembly created the commission in 1965, and since, members worked to secure billions of dollars in federal grants to help fund local and regional projects, and generate cooperation and collaboration within the region.
