Note to the Press: Please include the following statement from State Rep. J.D. Prescott (R-Union City) regarding a road project on U.S. Route 27 and State Road 26, running through downtown Portland. After listening to community concerns about the project, the Indiana Department of Transportation will not move forward with the lane reduction and reverse angle parking project. Instead the construction will only include bridge resurfacing:
STATEHOUSE (June 18, 2020) – "At this time, the project on U.S. Route 27 in downtown Portland will no longer include reverse angle parking or lane reduction. I appreciate INDOT's decision to reconsider this project, only moving forward with the bridge resurfacing, and understand there will need to be future construction to maintain these roads. I look forward to working with INDOT and community stakeholders to come up with a long-term maintenance plan to ensure we have a functional highway for interstate commerce and local use that is in the best interest of residents of Portland and Jay County."
