STATEHOUSE (Jan. 10, 2022) – State Rep. J.D. Prescott (R-Union City) authored legislation to ensure Hoosier parents take the lead on their children's education.

Prescott drafted legislation that would enhance school curriculum transparency and continue safeguarding young students from harmful ideologies being taught in K-12 classrooms.

"Hoosier students deserve an education centered on the fundamentals and not politics or ideology," Prescott said. "Teachers are incredibly influential on student development, and I know the vast majority of educators are dedicated to teaching traditional, age-appropriate skills. However, parents across Indiana have been loud and clear that they want to ensure our classrooms are a place for education and not indoctrination."

Under Prescott's proposal, schools would be required to provide easy access to syllabuses and obtain parental permission when breaching subjects like abortion, birth control and contraceptives, sexual activity and gender identity issues. School staff could not counsel students on sexual health issues or refer them to clinics that provide abortions.

The bill would also prohibit mask or vaccination mandates in K-12 schools.
