STATEHOUSE (March 9, 2026) – Legislation authored by State Rep. Kyle Pierce (R- Anderson) to address technical issues in Indiana Code passed the Senate and was signed into law by Governor Braun.
House Enrolled Act 1088 resolves technical conflicts from the 2025 legislative session and makes conforming amendments. The bill addresses spelling, tabulation, formatting, grammar and cross-references.
Pierce introduced the bill by explaining that the Code Revision Commission is tasked with identifying technical errors and conflicts within the current statute. He emphasized that the legislation does not alter substantive law or policy but instead focuses exclusively on correcting technical issues that can arise during the legislative process. The introduced version of the bill was prepared by the Code Revision Committee.
"Technical corrections like HEA 1088 may not be exciting, but they are important to maintaining clear and reliable Indiana Code," Pierce said. "The bill addresses 21 specific issues carried over from last session, so our laws remain precise, consistent and easy to apply."
Pierce said HEA 1088 addresses a total of 21 technical errors discovered within Indiana Code. These errors include incorrect cross-references, outdated references to obsolete or repealed statutes, entities and programs, and grammatical and formatting mistakes. The legislation also corrects spelling, tabulation and other structural inconsistencies to improve clarity and accuracy.
