STATEHOUSE (Dec. 12, 2022) – State Rep. Zach Payne (R-Charlestown) recently received appointments to serve on key House standing committees at the Statehouse.
Payne was named vice chair of the House Elections and Apportionment Committee.
"Maintaining fair and secure elections remains a top priority," Payne said. "I look forward to serving in this leadership role and helping support policies protect the integrity of our election process."
Payne will also serve as a member of the House Environmental Affairs Committee and the House Education Committee. Payne said K-12 education accounts for over half of the state's $37 billion two-year budget.
"As a parent, I understand the importance of making sure we are providing our children with the best learning opportunities and preparing them for life after school," Payne said. "I look forward to exploring how Indiana can create more work-based learning opportunities for high school students and provide flexibility so that applied learning classes can count toward graduation. We must do more to align the needs of our students with the needs of the 21st century economy."
House standing committee appointments are made by the Indiana House Speaker biennially after the November election and are in effect for the duration of members' two-year terms.
House lawmakers are scheduled to convene at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 9 for the first day of the 2023 legislative session. Hoosiers can visit iga.in.gov to find legislation, view calendars, and watch committee meetings and session.
