Note to the Press – State Reps. Karen Engleman (R-Georgetown) and Zach Payne (R-Charlestown) issued the following statements in response to Gov. Eric Holcomb's decision to deploy the Indiana National Guard to support the ongoing border security mission in Texas. Following the recent direct request from Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, Holcomb announced he will send 50 Hoosier guardsman to help the Texas National Guard during a 10-month deployment:
STATEHOUSE (Feb. 12, 2024) – "As the Biden Administration continues to support dangerous open border policies, Americans are left vulnerable to the unchecked flow of illegal immigrants and drugs moving up from Mexico. Texas is at the epicenter of this illegal immigration crisis and Texans have every right to protect their state. That's why I wholeheartedly support Governor Holcomb sending our National Guard members to join this mission, which is also in the best interest of Hoosier communities," said State Rep. Zach Payne (R-Charlestown).
"While the federal government has stood idly by and allowed this border crisis to worsen, a flood of illegal immigrants and drugs continue to impact communities across the country. Texans have a right to defend their border and protect its residents, and I'm grateful the Hoosier state is standing with them," said State Rep. Karen Engleman (R-Georgetown).
