Opportunities abound for House Republican interns

As students return to college campuses across the state, there are opportunities to learn both in and out of the classroom. One of the best ways to gain valuable work experience is an internship, and I encourage Hoosier students to consider applying for a spot with the Indiana House of Representatives.

During the upcoming 2024 legislative session, which begins in January, interns will work side-by-side with staff and legislators at the Statehouse in Indianapolis. Interns receive a $900 bi-weekly stipend with the opportunity to apply for a $3,000 scholarship to use toward undergraduate and graduate expenses. Internships are full time, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and will run from January through mid-March 2024. The deadline to apply is Oct. 31.

Internships are a great way to build professional connections, strengthen resumes and earn a paycheck. House Republican internships are open to college sophomores, juniors, seniors, recent graduates, and law school and graduate students. I encourage all students to apply regardless of their major.

We rely on interns to serve in a variety of roles during session. Communications and media relations interns write press releases and newsletters, produce video and audio clips, and help with graphic design projects. Legislative interns help track and research bills and work with constituents. Interns in the policy office work on analyzing legislation and data for members, and prepare committee reports.

During the legislative session, interns work directly with legislators as we write and debate bills, listen to testimony from Hoosiers, and more. The skills learned and improved on during session know no bounds, and many interns are presented opportunities for full-time jobs with our team or in the private sector.
