Olthoff: Local veteran to be inducted into hall of fame

STATEHOUSE (Sept. 27, 2016) — State Rep. Julie Olthoff (R-Crown Point) announces that Lowell resident James Chancellor will soon be inducted into the Indiana Military Veterans Hall of Fame.

Chancellor, 66, is a U.S. Army combat veteran who served in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970. As a door gunner he received a Purple Heart and Heroism Medal of Valor. He has is also actively involved in helping fellow veterans.

“I nominated Jim for many reasons, including his work to educate people about post-traumatic stress disorder,” Olthoff said. “He has helped countless veterans over the years and has a passion to educate young people about how combat affects soldiers. I would like to thank him for his service and congratulate him on his much-deserved honor.”

Retired U.S. Air Force TSgt. Mark Moulton serves as the secretary for the board of directors of the Indiana Military Veterans Hall of Fame. He said, those nominated are reviewed and scored by a selection committee comprised of veterans.

“Mr. Chancellor’s selection and score were based on his advocacy for veterans in the community and unwavering commitment to the affairs and care of veterans,” Moulton said.

The Indiana Veterans Hall of Fame is a non-profit organization formed by representatives from government, business and retired military. The organization’s objective is, “to publically emphasize the honor brought to our state and nation by the sacrifice of Indiana military veterans and their families.” For more information, visit www.imvhof.com.

Chancellor, along with fellow 2016 inductees, will be honored at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, at The Garrison in Indianapolis.
