STATEHOUSE (March 15, 2022) – Artwork by a local artist will soon be displayed at the Statehouse, according to State Rep. Julie Olthoff (R-Crown Point).
Jillian Bridgeman of Crown Point was selected to have her artwork decorate the Statehouse as part of Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch's and Indiana State Treasurer Kelly Mitchell's annual Hoosier Women Artists initiative. This year, 44 pieces of art were chosen out of more than 200 entries.
"My art is a four-piece installation that showcases me and all of my sisters' relationships," said Bridgeman, a former art teacher. "The art piece can come together and be taken apart, which represents how interconnected and disconnected we can be at times. It's really a way for me to talk about myself and my sisters as women without using depictions as people."
Bridgeman's work, "Her as Gray," will be displayed in Crouch's office.
"I always get excited to see the yearly display of diverse, artistic talent that comes from around our state, especially when someone from our community is selected," Olthoff said. "Jillian's creation represents something personal and beautiful, and I congratulate her for being selected to display her piece in the Statehouse. She truly deserves the recognition."
Bridgeman and other artists were honored at a Statehouse ceremony Thursday, March 3 as a part of Women’s History Month.
