STATEHOUSE (Oct. 11, 2024) – The Oct. 31 deadline to apply for an Indiana House Republican internship during the 2025 legislative session is fast approaching, according to area lawmakers.
State Rep. David Abbott (R-Rome City) said this full-time, spring semester internship is Monday through Friday at the Statehouse in Indianapolis during the legislative session, which will start in January and conclude in April. House interns earn $900 biweekly and can gain academic credit through their college or university.
"Our communications, legislative and policy interns all have the opportunity to work with lawmakers and other state leaders, which can help them establish a professional network that could lead to future job prospects," Abbott said. "I encourage students of all majors to apply before the application deadline at the end of the month."
State Rep. Ben Smaltz (R-Auburn) said interested college sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students and recent graduates of all majors should visit indianahouserepublicans.com/internship to complete the application before Oct. 31.
"In today's competitive job market, having an internship on your resume can set you apart from other candidates," Smaltz said. "Our program builds on the skills that students are learning in the classroom, giving them the chance to apply their knowledge through hands-on experience."
State Rep. Denny Zent (R-Angola) said Indiana House internships include free parking, career and professional development assistance, and enrollment access to an Indiana government class. Interns are also eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 scholarship to use toward undergraduate and graduate expenses.
"While interning at the Statehouse, students have the opportunity to network with professionals from various fields," Zent said. "With the deadline rapidly approaching, I encourage all interested students to apply."
Abbott said the program offers opportunities for students to work in various departments related to their studies, including legislative operations, policy and communications.
Applications are available online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and are due by Oct. 31.
