STATEHOUSE (Jan. 2, 2026) – Northeast Indiana lawmakers said Hoosier students who are interested in learning more about state government are invited to participate in the Indiana House Page Program during the 2026 legislative session.
State Rep. Ben Smaltz (R-Auburn) said pages can watch the legislative process in person, tour the historic Statehouse building and interact with their state representative.
"The House Page Program gives students the opportunity to connect directly with lawmakers during their visit to the Statehouse," Smaltz said. "This is a valuable way for young Hoosiers to better understand Indiana government and the legislative process."
The full-day program is available for students who are 13 to 18 years old. State Rep. David Abbott (R-Rome City) said pages are permitted by Indiana law to receive a one-day excused absence from school for their participation.
"Students in the page program will have a firsthand look at how laws are made," Abbott said. "This experience is a fantastic way to inspire the next generation of Hoosier leaders."
State Rep. Tony Isa (R-Angola) said the program offers students a unique experience to learn more about how Indiana's legislature operates.
"This is a hands-on opportunity for students to step inside the legislative process and see state government in action," Isa said. "Paging allows young Hoosiers to learn by doing and gain a better sense of how public policy affects their lives."
The program begins in January with opportunities every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday until the end of the legislative session. Eligible students and their parents are encouraged to submit an application corresponding with the date they would like to page. Pages are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on their chosen day, and groups serve together on Wednesdays. Students are responsible for their own lunch and transportation to and from the Statehouse in Indianapolis.
