STATEHOUSE (Aug. 15, 2025) – Northeast Indiana farms were recently honored by the state with Hoosier Homestead awards, according to local lawmakers.
"Supporting our farming families is key to sustaining Indiana's economic strength," said State Rep. Ben Smaltz (R-Auburn). "I'm honored to recognize these local farms for their dedication and longstanding contributions to our agricultural heritage."
Hoosier Homestead awards honor farms owned and operated by the same family for 100, 150 and 200 years with centennial, sesquicentennial or bicentennial awards.
"Generational farming takes commitment, sacrifice and long hours behind the scenes," said State Rep. David Abbott (R-Rome City). "That's why it's meaningful to see these hardworking families recognized for all they do."
The following farms received Hoosier Homestead awards:
"For generations, Hoosier farm families have worked tirelessly to boost our economy and protect our agricultural land," said State Sen. Sue Glick (R-LaGrange). "Honoring the years of hard work they've put forth is just one of the many ways we can thank them for preserving and strengthening Indiana's agricultural legacy."
These farm families were among 95 awardees recently honored during a ceremony at the Indiana State Fair.
"Indiana's agricultural strength comes from the commitment of our state’s long-time family farmers," said State Sen. Justin Busch (R-Fort Wayne). "It is an honor to represent some of the farming families receiving these awards and I will continue supporting them so they can continue to grow and thrive in Indiana.”
Hoosier Homestead ceremonies are conducted every spring and summer. Since establishing the program in 1976, Indiana has recognized more than 6,000 farms for their economic and cultural impact to the state.
