STATEHOUSE (March 10, 2021) – Two longstanding Elkhart County farms recently received Hoosier Homestead awards for being in operation for over 100 years, according to State Rep. Curt Nisly (R-Milford).

The Goss Farm has been in operation since 1911 and received a Hoosier Homestead Centennial Award. Another Goss Farm, also in operation since 1911, received the same award.

"Local farms like these help keep money and jobs in our community and bolster our state's economy as a whole," Nisly said. "Operating for more than 100 years is difficult for any business, but our farmers' success largely depends on Mother Nature's cooperation. I applaud both Goss Farms for their tenacity to run as long as they have, and wish them the continued success moving forward."

The families were among 51 farms recognized at the Indiana State Museum for their commitment to Indiana agriculture.

The Hoosier Homestead Award Program recognizes farms that have been owned and maintained by the same family for 100 years or more. Families can qualify for centennial, sesquicentennial or bicentennial awards.

Each year, two awards ceremonies are held in the spring and summer commemorating the achievements of farm families across the state. For more information on the Hoosier Homestead Award Program, visit in.gov/isda/2337.htm.
