STATEHOUSE (Aug. 17, 2022) – The North Central Parke Community School Corp. and their local community partners recently received Explore, Engage and Experience (3E) grants to establish or expand work-based learning opportunities for K-12 students, according to State Reps. Alan Morrison (R-Brazil) and Beau Baird (R-Greencastle).
The local school corporation received a $160,200 grant along with Ivy Tech Community College and a $106,200 grant along with the Parke County Community Foundation. These local partners will work with the schools to give more students opportunities for work-based learning and earning high-value credentials, as well as expand career exploration and engagement in elementary and middle school.
"Giving more Hoosier students the ability to explore different careers and get hands-on experience increases their likelihood for success after school," Morrison said. "We need to expose our younger generations to the multitude of jobs they can start training for now."
The Indiana Department of Education awarded $57 million through the newly created 3E grants to 97 schools and community partners serving all 92 counties. The 3E grant funding is allocated as part of the state’s federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief III plan.
"Allowing students to learn about and work in various industries while still in school can help them hit the ground running after graduation," Baird said. "It also gives our state a more prepared workforce that meets the needs of current and future employers."
In addition to local partnerships, 3E grants will increase access for K-12 students to Indiana's Next Level Programs of Study in secondary career and technical education courses, and the state's Graduation Pathways.
