State Reps. Dick Dodge (R-Pleasant Lake), Bob Morris (R-Fort Wayne) and Phyllis Pond (R-New Haven) today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation is teaming up with the Federal Aviation Administration to provide the grant for the De Kalb County Airport.

"This is great news for the county," said Rep. Dodge. "By extending the runway, our county airport will be more accessible to a wide range of planes. Now more people will be able to come to fly to our community for business or pleasure."

The $184,924 grant was funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to provide funds to reimburse the county for land acquisition and an environmental assessment to extend the runway at the airport.

"I applaud both groups for making this opportunity happen for De Kalb County, especially during tough economic times," said Rep. Morris. "Now the airport is able to keep moving forward with the extension of the runway, which will in turn help the surrounding community."

"Aviators will be pleased to know that soon the county airport will be more accessible and easier to land or take off from," said Rep. Pond. "This will vastly improve safety and commerce in the county."
