STATEHOUSE (Oct. 29, 2024) – The Oct. 31 deadline to apply for an Indiana House Republican internship during the 2025 legislative session is fast approaching, according to area lawmakers.
State Rep. Beau Baird (R-Greencastle) said this full-time, spring semester internship is Monday through Friday at the Statehouse in Indianapolis during the legislative session, which will start in January and conclude in April. House interns earn $900 biweekly and can gain academic credit through their college or university.
"Interning at the Statehouse provides students with hands-on experience that prepares them for a wide range of careers," Baird said. "From learning the legislative process to making valuable connections, this internship is an excellent opportunity for professional and personal growth."
State Rep. Sharon Negele (R-Attica) said interested college sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students and recent graduates of all majors should visit indianahouserepublicans.com/internship to complete the application before Oct. 31.
"From networking to learning about policy and government, the Statehouse is the perfect place to explore new paths for your future career," Negele said. "College students and recent graduates should apply and take advantage of the connections and skills you can gain."
State Rep. Mark Genda (R-Frankfort) said Indiana House internships include free parking, career and professional development assistance, and enrollment access to an Indiana government class. Interns are also eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 scholarship to use toward undergraduate and graduate expenses.
"Whether you know exactly what you want to do or are still considering options, an Indiana Statehouse internship is a great way to explore different careers and network with industry leaders," Genda said. "With the deadline coming up, I urge all local students interested in an internship to apply today."
State Rep. Jeff Thompson (R-Lizton) said the program offers opportunities for students to work in various departments related to their studies, including legislative operations, policy and communications.
"Working with lawmakers and legislative staff is a great way to build professional contacts, learn new skills and apply your education in a real-world setting," Thompson said. "Interning with Indiana House Republicans is a tremendous resume builder and career starter."
Applications are available online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and are due by Oct. 31.
