STATEHOUSE (April 10, 2024) – Montgomery County and local communities can roll forward with road and bridge projects thanks to a recent boost in state funding supported by local legislators.
A total of 252 communities across the state will receive over $207 million through Indiana's Community Crossings Matching Grant Program. Funds can be used for road and bridge preservation, road reconstruction, intersection improvements and other items.
"Maintaining infrastructure can be a costly endeavor for any size community," said State Rep. Beau Baird (R-Greencastle). "These grants have helped locals across the state finish essential projects faster so our roads, bridges and intersections receive necessary improvements."
Area grant recipients include Crawfordsville ($790,523), Montgomery County ($1.2 million) and New Market ($623,553).

"Whether it's road repairs or bridge maintenance, communities can tackle much-needed projects more quickly utilizing these state dollars. I'm excited to see so many local communities benefit from this grant, especially because of the incredible growth we continue to experience."
"Not all communities have the resources they need to complete projects to keep their roads and bridges safe and functional," said State Rep. Sharon Negele (R-Attica). "With the Community Crossings grants, cities, towns and counties have an opportunity to partner with the state to tackle much-needed repairs and plan for the future. I'm encouraged to see communities in our area participate and I look forward to seeing local residents benefit."
To qualify for the competitive grant, smaller municipalities provide a 25 percent match in local funds, while larger communities provide a 50 percent match. State law requires 50 percent of the available matching funds be awarded annually to communities within counties with a population of 50,000 or fewer. Since 2016, Community Crossings has awarded more than $1.6 billion to improve local roads and bridges.
“This program is a perfect example of the state and our local communities working together to help Hoosiers,” said State Rep. Mark Genda (R-Frankfort). “These substantial investments will strengthen our network of roads and accelerate economic growth.”
