STATEHOUSE (Jan. 7, 2026) – Montgomery County lawmakers said Hoosier students who are interested in learning more about state government are invited to participate in the Indiana House Page Program during the 2026 legislative session.
State Rep. Beau Baird (R-Greencastle) said pages can watch the legislative process in person, tour the historic Statehouse building and interact with their state representative.
"Serving as a page is a great way for students to see how state government works up close," Baird said. "It's an opportunity to learn, ask questions and experience the legislative process firsthand."
The full-day program is available for students who are 13 to 18 years old. State Rep. Matt Commons (R-Williamsport) said pages are permitted by Indiana law to receive a one-day excused absence from school for their participation.
"Pages have the opportunity to sit in on session, meet lawmakers and observe the legislative process," Commons said. "This type of experience goes beyond the classroom, and I encourage eligible students to participate."
State Rep. Mark Genda (R-Frankfort) said the program offers students a unique experience to learn more about how Indiana's legislature operates.
"I encourage all students interested in learning more about state government to apply this session," Genda said. "Paging at the Statehouse gives students a behind-the-scenes look at how ideas become laws."
The program begins in January with opportunities every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday until the end of the legislative session. Eligible students and their parents are encouraged to submit an application corresponding with the date they would like to page. Pages are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on their chosen day, and groups serve together on Wednesdays. "Laws affect all Hoosiers, and it's important for students to engage early with what's happening at the Statehouse," said State Rep. Jeff Thompson (R-Lizton). "Paging is a great way to get started in civics and learn more about the issues impacting your community and how you can help."
Students are responsible for their own lunch and transportation to and from the Statehouse in Indianapolis.
