STATEHOUSE (Oct. 1, 2026) – Montgomery County legislators are encouraging local students to apply for the Indiana House Republican Internship Program for the 2027 legislative session.
State Rep. Beau Baird (R-Greencastle) said this paid, full-time internship is open to college students, recent graduates and students in law or graduate school from January through April.
"Our interns are an indispensable part of why our process runs so smoothly during the legislative session," Baird said. "Whether you're interested in constituent services, communications or policy analysis, there's a hands-on, valuable service for you to explore that interest and develop professional skills."
State Rep. Matt Commons (R-Williamsport) said interns work in the Statehouse in downtown Indianapolis full-time Monday through Friday during the legislative session and gain practical knowledge of state government through active participation in the legislative process.
"Throughout this internship, students are working, networking and training alongside lawmakers, experts and legislative staff daily," Commons said. "You can’t get a more immersive experience than the one offered here at the Statehouse, and I encourage anyone interested to apply."
Intern positions are available in legislative operations, policy and communications.
State Rep. Jeff Thompson (R-Lizton) said this spring semester internship gives interested students opportunities to interact with state legislators, state agencies and private sector organizations, as well as participate in a weekly speaker series featuring Indiana civic leaders.
"Interning with House Republicans gives young Hoosiers practical real-world experience that will benefit them no matter what career path they choose," Thompson said. "It's also a great opportunity to build relationships with state and industry leaders that could lead to future employment."
Applications are available online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and are due by Oct. 31.
