STATEHOUSE (Oct. 10, 2025) – Indiana House Republicans are seeking student interns for the 2026 legislative session, according to Montgomery County legislators.

These paid, full-time internships are open to college students, recent graduates and students in graduate and law school. State Rep. Beau Baird (R-Greencastle) said the internship is an opportunity to gain practical knowledge of state government through active participation in the legislative process.

"We're proud to welcome students into the House Republican Internship Program each legislative session," Baird said. "This opportunity helps prepare the next generation of leaders for careers in public service and beyond."

State Rep. Matt Commons (R-Williamsport) said interns will work in the Statehouse in downtown Indianapolis full time Monday through Friday during the legislative session, which starts in January and concludes in March.

"From participating in legislative meetings to interacting on the House floor with legislators and staff, interns are fully engaged in session," Commons said. "I encourage any student who is interested in government, politics and communications to apply today."

Positions are available in legislative operations, policy and communications.

State Rep. Mark Genda (R-Frankfort) said interns will be paired with a staff member to work directly with an assigned group of state representatives. During this spring semester internship, students will have opportunities to interact with state legislators, state agencies and private sector organizations, as well as participate in a weekly speaker series featuring Indiana civic leaders.

"The experience students earn through an internship at the Statehouse is unlike any other," Genda said. "From sitting in on committee meetings to assisting constituents and providing session updates for the public, students are immersed in the legislative process."

"Having professional experience through opportunities like internships is crucial for students when seeking employment after graduating," said State Rep. Jeff Thompson (R-Lizton). "This program is a great resume booster and a way to network with lawmakers and industry leaders from across the state."

Applications are available online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and are due by Oct. 31.
