STATEHOUSE (Jan. 5, 2026) – Monroe County lawmakers said Hoosier students who are interested in learning more about state government are invited to participate in the Indiana House Page Program during the 2026 legislative session.

State Rep. Dave Hall (R-Norman) said pages can watch the legislative process in person, tour the historic Statehouse building and interact with their state representative.

"The House page program offers students a hands-on look at the legislative process and encourages civic engagement at a young age," Hall said. "It's a great way to spark an interest in public service."

The full-day program is available for students who are 13 to 18 years old. State Rep. Bob Heaton (R-Terre Haute) said pages are permitted by Indiana law to receive a one-day excused absence from school for their participation.

"Serving as a page is a unique chance for students to learn about Indiana government while meeting lawmakers and seeing history in action," Heaton said. "I encourage students to apply and take part in the process this session."

State Rep. Peggy Mayfield (R-Martinsville) said the program offers students a unique experience to learn more about how Indiana's legislature operates.

"This program gives students a meaningful look at how laws are debated and passed," Mayfield said. "It's an excellent opportunity for young Hoosiers to learn more about their state government."

The program begins in January with opportunities every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday until the end of the legislative session. Eligible students and their parents are encouraged to submit an application corresponding with the date they would like to page. Pages are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on their chosen day, and groups serve together on Wednesdays. To schedule a group, contact the page program director at 317-232-9410 or pageprogram@iga.in.gov.

Students are responsible for their own lunch and transportation to and from the Statehouse in Indianapolis.
