STATEHOUSE (Dec. 13, 2024) – Monroe County lawmakers recently received appointments to serve on key House standing committees at the Statehouse.

House standing committee appointments are made by the Indiana House Speaker biennially after the November election and are in effect for the duration of members' two-year terms. State Rep. Dave Hall (R-Norman) was reappointed as vice chair of the House Utilities, Energy and Telecommunications Committee. He will also serve as a member of the House Local Government Committee and the House Natural Resources Committee.

"Indiana's energy future is critical to our state's success," Hall said. "As vice chair of the Utilities, Energy and Telecommunications Committee, I'm eager to work with my colleagues to continue to advance innovative solutions for our utility and energy needs."

State Rep. Bob Heaton (R-Terre Haute) was reappointed as chair of the House Ways and Means Committee's Higher Education Subcommittee and will serve as a member of the House Financial Institutions Committee.

"Crafting a responsible budget that addresses our state's priorities remains one of my top responsibilities," Heaton said. "These committees provide an opportunity to tackle big issues and ensure Indiana remains a great place to work and live."

State Rep. Peggy Mayfield (R-Martinsville) was reappointed as vice chair of the House Public Policy Committee. She will also serve as a member of the House Ways and Means Committee and the House Insurance Committee. Mayfield said committees are responsible for vetting bills, including hearing public testimony and considering amendments.

"Our state's public policies and insurance regulations play a major role in the lives of everyday Hoosiers," Mayfield said. "I'm excited to dive into these important issues and work with my colleagues to enact meaningful, commonsense legislation."

House lawmakers are scheduled to convene at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 8 for the first day of the 2025 legislative session. Hoosiers can visit iga.in.gov to find legislation, view calendars, and watch committee meetings and session.
