STATEHOUSE (Sept. 25, 2025) – Indiana House Republicans are seeking student interns for the 2026 legislative session, according to Monroe County legislators.
These paid, full-time internships are open to college students, recent graduates and students in graduate and law school. State Rep. Dave Hall (R-Norman) said the internship is an opportunity to gain practical knowledge of state government through active participation in the legislative process.
"From assisting constituents to seeing legislation get passed and signed into law, interns have a front row seat to the entire legislative process," Hall said. "It's an experience that not only teaches but also inspires future leaders."
State Rep. Bob Heaton (R-Terre Haute) said interns will work in the Statehouse in downtown Indianapolis full time Monday through Friday during the legislative session, which starts in January and concludes in March.
"This isn't just an internship, it's an opportunity to grow professionally and personally," Heaton said. "Students will leave with skills and experiences that can benefit them for years to come."
Positions are available in legislative operations, policy and communications.
State Rep. Peggy Mayfield (R-Martinsville) said interns will be paired with a staff member to work directly with an assigned group of state representatives. During this spring semester internship, students will have opportunities to interact with state legislators, state agencies and private sector organizations, as well as participate in a weekly speaker series featuring Indiana civic leaders.
"Our interns play an important role in the work we do every day," Mayfield said. "They gain valuable experience while also making a meaningful difference for Hoosiers in their communities."
