STATEHOUSE (April 10, 2017) – State Rep. Doug Miller’s (R-Elkhart) proposal removing obsolete regulations placed on businesses and another supporting manufactured home dealers could soon be law.
Miller wants to task the Indiana Economic Development Corp. with developing an online portal that would allow businesses and local units of government to submit and describe duplicative state reporting requirements.
“The online portal would provide a direct line of communication between those who are impacted by state reporting requirements and those who can dissolve those requirements,” Miller said. “My fellow lawmakers and I are doing what we can to reduce government bureaucracy and excess spending.”
Miller said another bill would require manufactured home dealers to be licensed through the Secretary of State.
“In the past, manufactured home dealers and their services division were under the control of the BMV,” Miller said. “Currently, almost all these homes are sold in manufactured housing communities rather than from a dealer lot. My goal is to get Hoosier home dealers to work with the Secretary of State to provide protections not only for consumers, but for themselves. This is a change wanted by those working in the industry.”
House Enrolled Acts 1157 and 1119 are now eligible to be signed into law by the governor.
