STATEHOUSE (Feb. 26, 2018) The Indiana House of Representatives recently voted in support of a bill sponsored by State Rep. Doug Miller (R-Elkhart) ensuring Hoosier auctioneers lead efforts when the state conducts a public auction.

Miller said this legislation serves the interests of Indiana by giving preference to auctioneers, auction agencies and online auctioning websites licensed within the state. When auctioning off surplus state property, it’s essential the organizers are familiar with all applicable state laws and can address any situations that may arise during the process.

“This proposal would ensure the auctioneer or agency handling the sale of surplus state property has passed Indiana training and licensure requirements,” Miller said. “This legislation would ensure taxpayer-owned property is handled by experts very familiar with Indiana laws and regulations, as well as keeping money in our state and supporting Hoosier-owned businesses.”

This bill now advances to the governor for consideration as a new law. For more information on Senate Enrolled Act 300, visit iga.in.gov
