STATEHOUSE (Nov. 23, 2022) – Jennifer Meltzer of Shelbyville took the oath of office yesterday to serve as state representative for House District 73.
Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Loretta H. Rush administered the oath to all House lawmakers during a swearing-in ceremony in the House Chamber of the Statehouse during Organization Day, the formal start to the 2023 legislative session.
"I look forward to serving all Hoosiers in House District 73 and ensuring their views are shared at the Statehouse," Meltzer said. "I'm passionate about standing up for our 2nd Amendment rights, supporting local control, and addressing mental health and addiction issues. That's why I'm excited to put my legal and government experience to work for our district, and build on Indiana's strong conservative track record."
Meltzer represents House District 73, which includes eastern Bartholomew County, the northwest corner of Jennings County and portions of Decatur, and Shelby counties. She is currently the attorney for the city of Shelbyville and has previously served as a deputy attorney general for the state of Indiana.
Meltzer lives in Shelbyville with her husband, Trent, and three daughters, June, Rose and Pearl, and are members of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She is active in the community, serving as vice president of the Coulston Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization and secretary of the Shelby County Republican Party, and as a member of the Youth Assistance Program Board.
