STATEHOUSE (Nov. 23, 2022) – Jennifer Meltzer of Shelbyville and Lindsay Patterson of Brookville took the oath of office Tuesday to become state representatives serving portions of Decatur County.
Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Loretta H. Rush administered the oath to all House lawmakers during a swearing-in ceremony in the House Chamber of the Statehouse during Organization Day, which formally kicked off the 2023 legislative session.
Meltzer represents House District 73, which includes portions of Decatur, Shelby, Bartholomew and Jennings counties. She is currently the attorney for the city of Shelbyville and has previously served as a deputy attorney general for the state of Indiana. She lives in Shelbyville with her husband, Trent, and three daughters, June, Rose and Pearl.
"I look forward to serving all Hoosiers in House District 73 and ensuring their views are shared at the Statehouse," Meltzer said. "I'm passionate about standing up for our 2nd Amendment rights, supporting local control, and addressing mental health and addiction issues. That's why I'm excited to put my legal and government experience to work for our district, and build on Indiana's strong conservative track record."
Patterson represents House District 55, which includes Franklin, Fayette and Union counties, and portions of Rush, Decatur and Ripley counties. Born and raised in Brookville, Patterson is a graduate of Indiana University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in business. She currently works as a dental hygienist in Greendale, and lives in Franklin County with her husband, Brian, and her two sons Aydyn and Carsyn.
"I feel incredibly blessed to represent the area where I grew up and where we chose to raise our family," Patterson said. "I'll continue to support strong schools and parents' rights, fiscal responsibility, individual freedoms and our right to bear arms. I firmly believe Southeast Indiana's best days are in front of us, and I'm ready to get to work on our district's behalf."
