STATEHOUSE (Nov. 7, 2019) – Unionville Elementary School was among 12 schools honored Monday by the Indiana Department of Education during a ceremony in Indianapolis for receiving a 2019 National Blue Ribbon Schools Award, according to State Rep. Peggy Mayfield (R-Martinsville).
Mayfield said Unionville Elementary School was recognized for its overall academic excellence and fostering an environment of learning and growth for all of its students, helping them to reach their full potential.
The Blue Ribbon Schools Program is part of a larger national effort that aims to identify the best school leadership and teaching practices.
In addition to being recognized as a Blue Ribbon School, Unionville Elementary Principal Lily Albright will receive the Bell Award, one of only two schools in the state to receive such recognition.
“The Bell Award recognizes outstanding school leaders and the vital role they play in guiding students and schools toward excellence,” Mayfield said. “Bell Award recipients such as Principal Albright have transformed their schools. Their vision and collaborative leadership styles have produced outstanding results for all students from a broad range of backgrounds. Schools like Unionville Elementary are a testament to what can be accomplished when students and their families strive for excellence in education with support from dedicated teachers and administrators. Congratulations to Principal Albright and Unionville Elementary for this well-deserved recognition.”
According to Mayfield, more than 312 public and 50 private schools from around the country will be recognized during a ceremony Nov. 14-15 in Washington, D.C. In its 37-year history, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed this coveted award on more than 9,000 schools.
