Mayfield: Organization Day: Preparing for a busy 2025 legislative session

Posted by: Matt Stachler  | Thursday, November 14, 2024

As the 2025 legislative session approaches, members of the General Assembly will come from all corners of the state to the Statehouse for Organization Day, the formal start to session. This year's Organization Day will be Tuesday, Nov. 19. The day sets the stage for the months ahead as we gather to prepare for a productive and impactful legislative session.

This session is especially significant as we craft the state's next two-year budget. The General Assembly is tasked with passing a balanced state budget that balances revenue and expenses to fund critical state programs and initiatives. The budget funds K-12 and higher education, infrastructure, public safety and other areas that affect Hoosiers.

Budget sessions can bring unique challenges and opportunities. As a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, which is responsible for crafting the first draft of the budget, I look forward to having an important role in this process. Balancing our state's priorities with available funds requires both thoughtful planning and a clear understanding of the needs across our communities. Heading into this legislative session, we're committed to our continued investment in Indiana's future and success.

Public input is key to this process. I encourage you to stay informed and engaged through the legislative session. You can view and track legislation, watch live proceedings and view committee calendars and information at iga.in.gov. Additionally, you can contact my office by visiting my website at in.gov/h60 or calling 317-232-9600 to share your thoughts on legislation, or if you need assistance accessing state resources. As Organization Day nears, I look forward to reuniting with colleagues to discuss and set priorities for the year ahead. My goal is to represent you and our community effectively, from creating a responsibly balanced budget to addressing issues important to our local communities.

Thank you for allowing me to represent you in the Indiana House of Representatives. Let's stay connected and engaged as we work together to build a better future for Indiana.
