STATEHOUSE (May 4, 2017) – State Rep. Peggy Mayfield (R-Martinsville) recently visited Seven Oaks Classical School in Ellettsville to observe classrooms and discuss the legislative process with students and educators.
“Being immersed in the classroom with students and educators is the best way to truly see how our children are learning and growing,” Mayfield said. “I want to thank Headmaster Stephen Shipp and the school for opening their world of learning to me for the day.”
During her visit, second-grade students from Holly Walcott’s class recited the Preamble to the Constitution; Rachel James’ fourth-graders simulated the legislative process with a bill they had crafted; and Mayfield had lunch with the sixth-grade class. Dr. Bruce Smith welcomed Mayfield to his eighth-grade classroom to discuss her role as a state lawmaker and how she became interested in public service.
“Students attending Seven Oaks Classical School are thriving in an engaging learning environment that utilizes methods that have proven to withstand the test of time," Mayfield said. “Indiana is a leader in school choice, which allows families to select the educational program that best fits their needs.”
Seven Oaks Classical School is a tuition-free public charter school using a traditional curriculum with a heavy focus on classical liberal arts and sciences and a strong emphasis on civic education. It is in its first year of operation and currently serves students in grades K-8. To learn more about Seven Oaks Classical School, visit www.sevenoaksclassical.org or call 812-935-5003.
