STATEHOUSE (Sept. 17, 2019) – State Rep. Peggy Mayfield (R-Martinsville) encourages female non-traditional students to apply for the POWER Caucus Scholarship to further their education and career aspirations.
These non-traditional students include women who are returning to school after a hiatus, changing careers, seeking advancement in their professional or work lives, or stay-at-home moms entering or re-entering the workplace and in need of additional education and training. They can earn a scholarship of $750 to put toward their education.
“Having the education credentials and essential skills for today’s jobs are vitally important,” Mayfield said. “This scholarship can allow our female non-traditional students to pursue a degree and a fulfilling career by reducing some of the financial barriers they may face when positioning themselves for the workforce.”
Mayfield said there will be 18 scholarships awarded – two per congressional district. Scholarships are awarded to women who are residents of the state of Indiana and who are pursuing their education within the state. A recipient from the last round of POWER scholarships awarded is a Bloomington resident who resides in Mayfield’s district.
The primary criteria used by the selection committee will be financial need, personal vision, service to the community and future plans.
Scholarships will be awarded at a ceremony in February. To fill out an application, go to www.inpowercaucus.org/powerscholarship/. The application deadline is Oct. 1.
