STATEHOUSE (April 11, 2019) – State Rep. Peggy Mayfield (R-Martinsville) honored the Tabernacle Christian Martinsville varsity basketball teams at the Statehouse for winning the Indiana Association of Christian Schools Division I state championships.

“All season long, both of these teams strived toward excellence, from the coaches to each and every one of the student athletes,” Mayfield said. “They deserve to be proud of their performance. Tabernacle’s  boys’ and girls’ basketball teams served as tremendous ambassadors of our community on the larger competitive sports stage. It was a privilege to host them on the floor of the House of Representatives.”

The girls’ and boys’ teams of Tabernacle Christian Martinsville bested the Crosspointe Christian Academy teams 52-36 and 74-61, respectively, to win state titles. It was the second consecutive state championship for the boys and the first state championship for the girls.  It was also the first time that the same school won both championships in the same year.

The TCM girls’ basketball state champions are Alivia Keller, Emma Morris, Sophie Keller, Payton Scholl, Reese Scholl, Abby Doyle, Karley Elmore, Emma Roll, Elisabeth Ross, Abby Ross and Sarita Hayford. The team ended its season with a 22-5 record and went 9-1 in conference games.

The TCM boys’ basketball state champions are Jeff Kean, Avery Parker, Job Sichting, Carter Roll, Ethan Wright, James Waters III, Layton Woods, Jonathan Aldrich, Jorge Natareno, Jordan Hovious, Cody Anthis, Jason Baker and Brett Baughman. The team ended the season with a 26-5 record and went 12-0 in conference games.

Girls basketball coach Justin Scholl and boys basketball coach Kenny Roll were each named Coach of the Year by the Indiana Association of Christian Schools.
