STATEHOUSE (Feb. 22, 2018) — State Rep. Peggy Mayfield (R-Martinsville) and State Sen. Rodric Bray (R-Martinsville) recognized the Martinsville High School Academic Decathlon team Tuesday for winning their second-straight state title.
Martinsville High School won the Indiana Academic Decathlon State Champion title on Feb. 12, in West Lafayette. The team also placed first in several categories including economics, essay, language and literature, speech, and social science.
“Our community is proud of the bright students representing our school at this statewide competition,” Mayfield said. “Credit should not only be given to the students who work hard all year long, but we must also recognize the parents and teachers who are dedicated to seeing these kids succeed. The students and coaches on this team devote hundreds of extracurricular hours to preparing for this competition. Congratulations and good luck at the national competition.”
The team’s victory was their 19th overall state championship, and its second-straight national competition appearance.
“Congratulations to these incredible students for all they have accomplished,” Bray said. “The countless hours these students, their parents and the dedicated teachers put in have paid off in a big way as they captured their second-straight title. I wish them luck at the national competition and want them to know that the entire community will be supporting them.”
The team will represent Indiana at the U.S. Academic Decathlon National Finals in Frisco, Texas, in April. For more information on Senate Concurrent Resolution 43, visit iga.in.gov.
