STATEHOUSE (Oct. 23, 2020) – State Reps. Peggy Mayfield (R-Martinsville) and Beau Baird (R-Greencastle) encourage seniors at Eminence, Martinsville and Monrovia high schools, along with their families, to attend upcoming workshops to learn more about financial aid options for students pursuing college.

According to Mayfield and Baird, INvestEd is offering free guidance on completing and submitting the 2021 Free Application for Federal Student Aid form. To be eligible for state and federal financial aid, students must fill out the FAFSA for universities and colleges to determine which students can receive assistance and determine the amount of aid. The workshop for Eminence High School is at 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26 at the school, and INvestEd will host virtual events at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct 28. and at 6 p.m. Dec. 7 for Martinsville High School students, and 4-7 p.m. Nov. 4 for Monrovia High School students. Families should have tax and income documents of both the parents and students.

"Knowing what resources are available to help pay for college or an apprenticeship is a major component of making plans after high school," Mayfield said. "These workshops can help students and their parents determine what will work best financially when choosing a career path."

At the workshops, students and families can learn how to compare the cost of college, learn more about scholarships and grants, as well as, meet with expert financial INvestEd counselors to fill out the FAFSA in person. Baird said INvestEd, an Indiana nonprofit, has been helping families for 40 years understand post-secondary education costs and find ways to pay for college.

"Continuing your education is one of the most important investments you can make," Baird said. "Students and their families should take advantage of INvestEd's free counseling to learn their options on paying for additional schooling or training after high school."

Families anywhere in Indiana can speak to an INvestEd expert about questions they have while completing the FAFSA application by calling 317-715-9007. To learn more about INvestEd's work or access free resources and counseling, visit
