STATEHOUSE (Oct. 22, 2024) – The Oct. 31 deadline to apply for an Indiana House Republican internship during the 2025 legislative session is fast approaching, according to area lawmakers.
State Rep. Bob Behning (R-Indianapolis) said this full-time, spring semester internship is Monday through Friday at the Statehouse in Indianapolis during the legislative session, which will start in January and conclude in April. House interns earn $900 biweekly and can gain academic credit through their college or university.
"There have been so many interns who've used this program as a steppingstone to rewarding careers and elected office," Behning said. "Local students looking to augment their resumes and get professional experience should apply before the Oct. 31 deadline."
State Rep. Julie McGuire (R-Indianapolis) said interested college sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students and recent graduates of all majors should visit indianahouserepublicans.com/internship to complete the application before Oct. 31.
"Students can apply all sorts of classroom knowledge to this internship," McGuire said. "It's an opportunity to learn new skills and hone existing ones that can be beneficial in a variety of future jobs."
State Rep. Mike Speedy (R-Indianapolis) said Indiana House internships include free parking, career and professional development assistance, and enrollment access to an Indiana government class. Interns are also eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 scholarship to use toward undergraduate and graduate expenses.
"House interns play an important role in ensuring the legislative session runs smoothly," Speedy said. "The students and graduates who work at the Statehouse get to participate in an essential process that affects all Hoosiers."
State Rep. Chris Jeter (R-Fishers) said the program offers opportunities for students to work in various departments related to their studies, including legislative operations, policy and communications.
"Interns get to network with lawmakers, business owners and other professionals in the public and private sectors from around the state," Jeter said. "I encourage students of all majors to apply now for this experience and opportunity to build their resume."
Applications are available online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and are due by Oct. 31.
