STATEHOUSE (Jan. 7, 2026) – Marion County lawmakers said Hoosier students who are interested in learning more about state government are invited to participate in the Indiana House Page Program during the 2026 legislative session.
State Rep. Bob Behning (R-Indianapolis) said pages can watch the legislative process in person, tour the historic Statehouse building and interact with their state representative.
"It's so important to encourage the next generation of Hoosiers to get involved in their communities," Behning said. "Showing students how their government works in practice helps them understand the importance of their role as citizens."
The full-day program is available for students who are 13 to 18 years old. State Rep. Julie McGuire (R-Indianapolis) said pages are permitted by Indiana law to receive a one-day excused absence from school for their participation.
"This program is valuable because pages get to sit in during the legislative session and see what really goes into crafting laws," McGuire said. "It's a hands-on experience that complements what they're learning in the classroom."
State Rep. Andrew Ireland (R-Indianapolis) said the program offers students a unique experience to learn more about how Indiana's legislature operates.
"Whether they're interested in law, governance or just citizenship in action, students are welcome to come to the Statehouse and page for a day," Ireland said. "It's a learning experience that will foster their understanding and appreciation of how laws are made."
The program has opportunities every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday until the end of the legislative session. Eligible students and their parents are encouraged to submit an application corresponding with the date they would like to page. Pages are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on their chosen day, and groups serve together on Wednesdays. "Pages see the pace, responsibility and teamwork that go into each legislative day," said State Rep. Chris Jeter (R-Fishers). "Spending time at the Statehouse helps students understand how decisions are made and the work that happens behind each law."
Students are responsible for their own lunch and transportation to and from the Statehouse in Indianapolis.
