STATEHOUSE (Oct. 8, 2025) – Indiana House Republicans are seeking student interns for the 2026 legislative session, according to Marion County legislators.

These paid, full-time internships are open to college students, recent graduates and students in graduate and law school. State Rep. Bob Behning (R-Indianapolis) said the internship is an opportunity to gain practical knowledge of state government through active participation in the legislative process.

"Many state leaders got their start serving as House interns," Behning said. "It's a great opportunity to develop skills and build a professional network that can lead to future career opportunities."

State Rep. Julie McGuire (R-Indianapolis) said interns will work in the Statehouse in downtown Indianapolis full time Monday through Friday during the legislative session, which starts in January and concludes in March.

"I served as an intern and it was a great experience that eventually led me back to the Statehouse to work as a policy analyst and then serve as a state representative," McGuire said. "Internship slots fill fast, so I encourage interested students to apply now."

State Rep. Andrew Ireland (R-Indianapolis) said positions are available in legislative operations, policy and communications.

"House internships offer a robust learning experience for students and recent graduates of all backgrounds," Ireland said. "Working at the Statehouse every day, interns will gain invaluable skills and build connections with lawmakers, staff and professionals from around the state."

State Rep. Chris Jeter (R-Fishers) said interns will be paired with a staff member to work directly with an assigned group of state representatives. During this spring semester internship, students will have opportunities to interact with state legislators, state agencies and private sector organizations, as well as participate in a weekly speaker series featuring Indiana civic leaders.

“Every year, interns become trusted members of our team, working alongside staff and legislators on important projects,” Jeter said. “It’s an excellent opportunity to understand how policy decisions are made and how ideas turn into law.”

Applications are available online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and are due by Oct. 31.
