STATEHOUSE (Oct. 24, 2024) – The Oct. 31 deadline to apply for an Indiana House Republican internship during the 2025 legislative session is fast approaching, according to area lawmakers.
State Rep. Kyle Pierce (R-Anderson) said this full-time, spring semester internship is Monday through Friday at the Statehouse in Indianapolis during the legislative session, which will start in January and conclude in April. House interns earn $900 biweekly and can gain academic credit through their college or university.
"Students can use this internship to network, improve skills and build a strong resume,” Pierce said. “I was a part of the internship program in the past and it was a great opportunity that helped give me more confidence to run for office."
State Rep. Lori Goss-Reaves (R-Marion) said interested college sophomores, juniors, seniors, graduate students and recent graduates of all majors should visit indianahouserepublicans.com/internship to complete the application before Oct. 31.
“A House internship offers students a chance to apply their classroom knowledge in a real-world setting,” Goss-Reaves said. “As an educator and legislator, I see how beneficial this program is and highly encourage all students who are interested to apply before the deadline."
State Rep. Chris Jeter (R-Fishers) said Indiana House internships include free parking, career and professional development assistance, and enrollment access to an Indiana government class. Interns are also eligible to apply for a competitive $3,000 scholarship to use toward undergraduate and graduate expenses.
"Interns get to network with lawmakers, business owners and other professionals in the public and private sectors from around the state," Jeter said. "I encourage students of all majors to apply now for this experience and opportunity to build their resume."
State Rep. Elizabeth Rowray (R-Yorktown) said the program offers opportunities for students to work in various departments related to their studies, including legislative operations, policy and communications.
“I always look forward to working with each new group of interns and seeing their professional growth,” Rowray said. “I encourage eligible students to take advantage of this opportunity.”
“I’ve had the pleasure of working with many interns during my time in the House,” said State Rep. Bob Cherry (R-Greenfield). “This program helps shape careers for students and allows them to participate in meaningful work that impacts our state.”
Applications are available online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and are due by Oct. 31.
