STATEHOUSE (Jan. 5, 2025) – Madison County lawmakers said Hoosier students who are interested in learning more about state government are invited to participate in the Indiana House Page Program during the 2026 legislative session.
State Rep. Kyle Pierce (R-Anderson) said pages can watch the legislative process in person, tour the historic Statehouse building and interact with their state representative.
"It’s rewarding to watch students explore the Statehouse and the legislative process," Pierce said. "Pages leave with a clearer picture of how decisions are made and how they might get involved someday."
"Talking with young Hoosiers who are interested in state government and history is always exciting," said State Rep. Elizabeth Rowray (R-Yorktown). "They get to meet their representative and ask questions about bills and procedures. That engagement is what makes the program valuable."
The full-day program is available for students who are 13 to 18 years old. State Rep. Lori Goss-Reaves (R-Marion) said pages are permitted by Indiana law to receive a one-day excused absence from school for their participation.
"I recommend the page program to students whenever I can," Goss-Reaves said. "They can see their representatives in action and ask questions about the process. A walk through the Statehouse gives them a sense of the history behind our government."
"I enjoy meeting pages as they bring new energy and perspective to the Statehouse," said State Rep. Ethan Lawson (R-Greenfield). "Observing the process inspires them to think about their roles in the future."
State Rep. Chris Jeter (R-Fishers) said the program offers students a unique experience to learn more about how Indiana's legislature operates.
"Pages see the pace, responsibility and teamwork that go into each legislative day," Jeter said. "Spending time at the Statehouse helps students understand how decisions are made and the work that happens behind each law."
The program begins in January with opportunities every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday until the end of the legislative session. Eligible students and their parents are encouraged to submit an application corresponding with the date they would like to page. Pages are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on their chosen day, and groups serve together on Wednesdays. Students are responsible for their own lunch and transportation to and from the Statehouse in Indianapolis.
