STATEHOUSE (Dec. 13, 2024) – Madison County legislators recently received appointments to serve on key House standing committees at the Statehouse.
House standing committee appointments are made by the Indiana House Speaker biennially after the November election and are in effect for the duration of members' two-year terms. State Rep. Lori Goss-Reaves (R-Marion) was appointed as the vice chair of the House Insurance Committee. She will also serve as a member of the House Public Health Committee and the House Family, Children and Human Affairs Committee.
"Access to affordable and reliable insurance is critical for Indiana families and businesses," Goss-Reaves said. "As vice chair, I’ll work to ensure our policies promote a competitive market while protecting consumers."
State Rep. Chris Jeter (R-Fishers) was reappointed as chair of the House Judiciary Committee, and will serve as a member of the House Courts and Criminal Code Committee, and the House Utilities, Energy, and Telecommunications Committee.
"The judiciary committee will continue its work to ensure Indiana’s courts and criminal justice system protects public safety and all Hoosiers," Jeter said. "As an attorney, I look forward to leaning into my experience as we examine complex issues and identify ways our state can improve."
State Rep. Ethan Lawson (R-Greenfield) will serve as a member of the House Elections and Apportionment Committee, the House Roads and Transportation Committee, and the House Veterans Affairs and Public Safety Committee.
"These committees will determine our focus for the upcoming session," Lawson said. "I look forward to working on these three committees that address issues important to Hoosiers like improving Indiana’s roads, supporting our veterans and ensuring fair and secure elections."
State Rep. Kyle Pierce (R-Anderson) was appointed as vice chair of the House Financial Institutions Committee. He will also serve as a member of the House Elections and Apportionment Committee and the House Environmental Affairs Committee. Pierce said committees are responsible for vetting bills, including hearing public testimony and considering amendments.
"I’m honored to continue serving as a member of these important committees and look forward to serving as a vice chair," Pierce said. "These committees help solve several issues for our Indiana, and we are focused on the important work that has already been started for the next legislative session."
State Rep. Elizabeth Rowray (R-Yorktown) will serve as a member of the House Commerce, Small Business and Economic Development. She was also reappointed to serve as a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, and the House Family, Children and Human Affairs Committee.
"Supporting Indiana’s families, businesses and economic growth is at the heart of my legislative priorities," said Rowray. "I’m excited to collaborate with my colleagues to craft policies that create jobs, strengthen communities, and ensure a strong future for our state."
House lawmakers are scheduled to convene at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 8 for the first day of the 2025 legislative session. Hoosiers can visit iga.in.gov to find legislation, view calendars, and watch committee meetings and session.
