STATEHOUSE (Oct. 8, 2025) – Indiana House Republicans are seeking student interns for the 2026 legislative session, according to Madison County legislators.
These paid, full-time internships are open to college students, recent graduates and students in graduate and law school. State Rep. Elizabeth Rowray (R-Yorktown) said the internship is an opportunity to gain practical knowledge of state government through active participation in the legislative process.
“Interns leave this program with more confidence to explore career options and an appreciation of the work done here,” Rowray said. “It shows them various paths to serve their community and gives them the skills to take those next steps.”
State Rep. Lori Goss-Reaves (R-Marion) said interns will work in the Statehouse in downtown Indianapolis full time Monday through Friday during the legislative session, which starts in January and concludes in March.
“I always encourage students to apply, even if they’re still figuring out their future career path,” Goss-Reaves said. “This internship gives them many tools, from writing and research to teamwork and public speaking. Most important, it demonstrates the impact of public service and how they can make a difference.”
State Rep. Ethan Lawson (R-Greenfield) said positions are available in legislative operations, policy and communications.
“An internship at the Statehouse is a tremendous learning experience," Lawson said. "Students quickly see how decisions made here affect our communities. Interns also play an important role by making sure information moves smoothly between our neighbors across the district and legislators.”
State Rep. Kyle Pierce (R-Anderson) said interns will be paired with a staff member to work directly with an assigned group of state representatives. During this spring semester internship, students will have opportunities to interact with state legislators, state agencies and private sector organizations, as well as participate in a weekly speaker series featuring Indiana civic leaders.
"As an intern, you are directly involved in the legislative process, assisting lawmakers and staff, and seeing firsthand how policies are made," Pierce said. "This Internship allows students to gain practical skills, build a professional network and leave with a clearer sense of a future."
“Every year, interns become trusted members of our team, working alongside staff and legislators on important projects,” said State Rep. Chris Jeter (R-Fishers). “It’s an excellent opportunity to understand how policy decisions are made and how ideas turn into law.”
Applications are available online at indianahouserepublicans.com/internship and are due by Oct. 31.
