Local legislators welcome Boone County student pages to the Statehouse

STATEHOUSE (May 9, 2023) – Local legislators recently welcomed Boone County students to the Statehouse where they participated in the Indiana House Page Program.  

"It was a blessing to get to meet so many interested local students during my first session," said State Rep. Becky Cash (R-Zionsville). "Through this program, House pages learn about state history and the importance being civically engaged."

As pages, the students assisted lawmakers and staff with daily duties, toured offices of all branches of government in the Statehouse, and joined lawmakers on the House floor to witness and learn about the legislative process.

"It's always encouraging to see so many local students visit the Statehouse and take advantage of this opportunity," said State Rep. Jeff Thompson (R-Lizton). "The page program introduces young Hoosiers to government outside of what they learned in the classroom, and how it impacts their daily lives."

These area students served as pages during the 2023 legislative session:

• Emiliano Davila, from Jamestown, attends Western Boone Jr./Sr. High School;
• Paige Henney (pictured with State Rep. Brad Barrett of Richmond), from Zionsville, attends Zionsville Middle School;
• Gabriella Langford, from Zionsville, attends Westfield High School;
• Michaela Mckee, from Whitestown, attends Zionsville West Middle School;
• Genesis Ortiz Tejeda, from Zionsville, attends Zionsville Community High School;
• Mackenzie Pascarella, from Zionsville, attends Zionsville Community High School;
• Noah Samuel, from Zionsville, attends Zionsville West Middle School;
• Sage Tousey, from Zionsville, attends Heritage Christian School;
• Billy Wade, from Jamestown, attends Western Boone Jr./Sr. High School;
• Aaden Wermer, from Zionsville, attends Zionsville West Middle School;
• Josiah Williamson, from Thorntown, attends Western Boone Jr./Sr. High School; and
• Fiona Ashley Willuweit, from Jamestown, attends Southmont High School.

"Paging gives students the chance to spend the day at the Statehouse and interact with their local representatives," said State Rep. Donna Schaibley (R-Carmel). "It's always exciting to meet our future leaders and teach them about the legislative process."

State Rep. Mark Genda (R-Frankfort) said students ages 13 to 18 should consider participating during the 2024 legislative session.

"Taking part in the page program gives students the chance to meet and interact with various state leaders," Genda said. "It was encouraging to speak with these young Hoosiers and see them leave with a better understanding of the legislative process."
