STATEHOUSE (Dec. 21, 2023) – Hardy Lake State Park's lift station will be replaced with the help of newly approved state funding, according to local legislators.
State Reps. Zach Payne (R-Charlestown), Jim Lucas (R-Seymour) and Karen Engleman (R-Georgetown) voted in support of the funding as part of the 2021 state budget, and the State Budget Committee formally approved releasing the funds along with funding for many other projects across the state.
The approved funding will go toward replacing the Hardy Lake State Park lift station. Lift stations are used to carry wastewater from low areas to an elevated position, allowing the water to then flow downhill to a sewage system.
"Lift stations are a great investment in water treatment, helping to save money in the long run by reducing excavation costs for more sewage lines," Lucas said. "Keeping this body of water clean is beneficial to the environment and visitors alike."
Payne said this funding is part of more than $1.7 million approved by the State Budget Committee for wastewater treatment plants and lift stations. Other Southeastern Indiana lift station and wastewater treatment plant rehabilitations will include Deam Lake in Clark County and Versailles State Park in Ripley County.
"The state parks in Southeast Indiana continue to grow in popularity, and it's very important they are well-maintained," Payne said. "This funding will go a long way in covering much-needed repairs and replacements so that our state parks can welcome visitors for years to come."
"A clean lake is a valuable asset, and with Indiana's strong financial position, we can responsibly pay for projects to maintain our water resources," Engleman said. "These fixes benefit everyone, keeping our water clean and usable."
